Once in a generation, the sky itself becomes the destination. On 2 August 2027, Egypt will host the longest total solar eclipse visible on land until the year 2114, and the golden oasis of Siwa sits directly beneath its path. Desert Cruise Travel invites you to witness this rare cosmic spectacle from one of the most magical corners of the Western Desert, where more than five minutes of full totality will turn day into star-filled night above the palm groves and salt lakes of ancient Siwa. This eight-day private journey pairs the eclipse of the century with the very best of Egypt. You will stand before the Great Pyramids of Giza and walk the dazzling halls of the Grand Egyptian Museum, follow the Mediterranean coast through the World War II battlefields of El Alamein, cross the desert to remote Siwa, and ride a 4x4 deep into the Great Sand Sea. You will float in Cleopatra's Spring, watch the sun sink behind the dunes by candlelight, and explore the medieval mosques, Coptic churches and great museums of Cairo. Throughout, you travel privately with your own Egyptologist guide, with every transfer, meal and desert permit taken care of, so that all you need to do is look up.
Day 1: Arrival in Cairo
Your Desert Cruise Travel representative meets you inside Cairo International Airport for a warm Meet and Assist welcome, helping with visa and luggage formalities. You are then transferred privately in an air-conditioned vehicle to your hotel for check-in. In the evening you enjoy dinner at the hotel and overnight in Cairo.
Day 2: Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum
After breakfast you meet your private Egyptologist guide for a full day on the Giza Plateau. You stand before the Great Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the last surviving Wonder of the Ancient World, and the enigmatic Great Sphinx. After a traditional Egyptian lunch at a quality local restaurant, you enter the magnificent Grand Egyptian Museum, home to the towering Colossus of Ramses II, the Grand Staircase of royal statues and the complete treasures of Tutankhamun. You return to your hotel for dinner and overnight in Cairo.
Day 3: Cairo to El Alamein and Marsa Matrouh to Siwa Oasis
After breakfast you check out and depart along the Mediterranean coast, reaching El Alamein about three hours later. Here you visit the World War II Museum, with its wartime artifacts and the story of the decisive 1942 battle, and the War Cemeteries, the peaceful resting place of Commonwealth, Italian, German and other soldiers. You continue to the seaside town of Marsa Matrouh for lunch beside the turquoise Mediterranean, then turn inland and cross the Western Desert to the Siwa Oasis. You check in to your Siwa hotel, followed by dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Eclipse Day and Great Sand Sea Safari
This is the day of the Total Solar Eclipse. You begin early to reach your chosen viewing site in comfort and settle in well before first contact. After breakfast you drive by 4x4 to a selected eclipse-viewing spot inside the path of totality, away from the crowds, where your guide sets up and briefs the group on safe solar viewing with certified eclipse glasses provided. The partial phase begins as the Moon starts to cross the Sun, and around 12:45 the Sun is completely hidden for over five minutes as the sky darkens to twilight and the corona blazes around the black disc of the Moon, an unforgettable moment. After the eclipse you continue the 4x4 safari deep into the Great Sand Sea, sandboarding down the golden dunes and stopping at the natural hot and cold springs, with a relaxed lunch in the desert. You return to the hotel for dinner and overnight in Siwa.
Day 5: Ancient Siwa and Sunset over the Salt Lake
After breakfast you explore the historic Shali Fortress, the ancient mud-brick heart of Siwa, and climb the Mountain of the Dead with its rock-cut tombs. You visit the Temple of the Oracle of Amun at Agurmi, where Alexander the Great once sought the oracle's word, then take a refreshing swim in the famous Cleopatra's Spring. After lunch at a local restaurant in the oasis, you head to the shimmering Siwa Salt Lakes for a float in the mineral-rich water and a spectacular desert sunset. You return for a traditional candlelight dinner and overnight in Siwa.
Day 6: Siwa to El Alamein to Cairo
After breakfast you check out and begin the scenic return drive toward the coast, stopping for lunch at El Alamein on the Mediterranean. You then continue to Cairo, check in to your hotel and enjoy dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Islamic and Coptic Cairo and the NMEC
After breakfast you spend a full day exploring the spiritual and historic heart of old Cairo with your Egyptologist guide. In Coptic Cairo you visit the Hanging Church and Abu Serga, the legendary refuge of the Holy Family. In Islamic Cairo you explore the great mosques and the Saladin Citadel with its gleaming Alabaster Mosque and panoramic views over the city. After a traditional Egyptian lunch, you visit the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, home to the unforgettable Royal Mummies Hall, tracing the country's story from prehistory to today. You return to your hotel for overnight in Cairo.
Day 8: Departure
After breakfast and check-out, your Desert Cruise Travel representative transfers you privately to Cairo International Airport for your onward departure, carrying home the memory of the eclipse of the century.
